Terran is common name used to refer to the four closely related species from Sol III: Elves, Gnomes, Halflings, and Humans. Among the most widespread populations in Elyrion, most regions of space play host to at least some Terran ancestries, though their differing preferences mean that in many places one subspecies dominates. Terrans are capable of interbreeding, though the prevalence of different varieties of hybrid varies widely by parentage. The genetic mechanisms which drive the extreme variance between subspecies are poorly understood. Terrans as a whole are magically inclined, with among the highest per capita rates of arcane capability of all known species.

Origins

Biology and Appearance

Though the subspecies are morphologically distinct, they all share many common features. All Terrans are bipedal tetrapods, with internal skeletons, backbones, and large brains located in their heads. Terrans also have binocular vision and partially linked respiratory and digestive systems, with a single trachea used for both breathing and consumption. They are mostly bald, though the scalp and chins do grow hair, which is typically muted in color (though often artificially pigmented and stylized). Terrans vary widely in height, with halflings and gnomes typically no taller than 1.2 metres, while humans are typically just under 2m and elves average 2.2 metres in height. They typically communicate via some combination of speech, facial expression, and hand gestures.
