Sialumh Heavy Industries, formed in 2319 SSD from a merger of 119 smaller democratic firms operating near the base of the Kamma Spine, is an integrated design collective specializing in vehicles and industrial equipment. Though formally headquartered in Port Auren since 2383 SSD, its administrative facilities and megascale manufactories are located outside of Compact space in accordance with an agreement made with Concord Industries in 2478 SSD.

From mining drones to plasma weaponry, Sialumh Heavy Industries produces, licenses, and maintains a wide array of patterns in close partnership with its users; its devolved organisation, close relationship with freelance collectives, and apolitical stance has earned it access to vast libraries of technical solutions and accurate customer feedback, contributing to a well-earned reputation for versatility and reliability amongst specialists and guilds; though products seldom incorporate the highest-performance technologies or the most intuitive of interfaces, they are widely considered to be well-built.

Experimental devices and prototypes built by Sialumh Heavy Industries and its subdivisions are as numerous as they are widespread; while its megascale manufacturies are well-protected, smaller workshops and individual freelancers frequently run into trouble with outlaws and attention from unscrupulous organisations. Sialumh Heavy Industries' large size and manufacturing quality typically prevents the final product from being outcompeted by imitations on release by a large margin, but a disturbing amount of bizzare equipment finds its way into the hands of pirates, smugglers, and brigands.

Governance

Sialumh Heavy Industries is run largely from the bottom up, with individual employees and associated freelancers voting and petitioning in order to effect changes in workplace and project policy; its managers and divisional representatives are elected, and its five executives are voted in by randomly-picked committees following their appointment.

95% of company ownership is distributed among the employees, with remaining stocks listed on exchanges throughout the Nova Compact, Pelor Cluster Union, and Alari Empire. Subdivisions are listed separately.

Subdivisions

Sialumh Heavy Industries has created and acquired a number of smaller ventures that, while financially and administratively independent, are tied into the greater design ecosystem and freelancer pool of the collective; informal adoption of common subsystems across divisions is common. Extant and dissolved subdivisions are as follows:

SHIMAD

Formerly a small startup by the name of Archipelago Atomics, SHIMAD (Sialumh Heavy Industries Metastables and Atomics Division) was inducted into Sialumh Heavy Industries in a merger in 2377 SSD. Specialising in the design and production of reactors and energetic materials, they have grown renowned for the safety and reliability of their products - SHIMAD blasting explosives are known for their stability on the hottest of rocky planets, and their modular fusion reactor cores, while not as high-performance as those of Kamma-Seim Plasmadynamics or as cheap as those of Concord Industries, are commonly used where ruggedness, durability, and versatility are vital.

At present, SHIMAD is the largest autonomous subdivision of Sialumh Heavy Industries; a prospective merger with EnerSYS would have increased its market share above that of the rest of SHI combined, but was turned down in 2420.

SHIMAD holds numerous contracts and licensing agreements with Bulgine Systems Co. and Concord Spaceworks in addition to its dealings with other Sialumh Heavy Industries divisions.

Series:

SHIIMPEC

SHIIMPEC (Sialumh Heavy Industries Integrated Mechanicals, Propulsion, and Energy Commission) was formed in 2383 shortly after the registration of the collective in Port Auren, specialising in the production of military-grade aerospace vehicles and ballistics systems. Despite the success of the AtB-100 "Hagraven" series and related aircraft, SHIIMPEC began experiencing financial issues in the 2450s, culminating in a series of schisms and disputes throughout the 2480s and the withdrawal of Sialumh Heavy Industries support in 2484. SHIIMPEC and its remaining assets were acquired by Concord Industries under its Aero and Starflight divisions in 2491.
