Bulgine Systems Company

The venerable Bulgine Systems company is one of the unsung heroes of the rejuvenation of bulk space cargo in the post-Silence era. Based on Atikon, they have for several centuries produced ever-improving systems for the loading and unloading of freight bulkers. Spacers up and down the Novabridge have enshrined the company’s name in their slang for such machines, “bulgines”.

The company was founded in 2159, and finished assembly of an orbital manufacturing platform which housed much of its operation about a decade later. Its early adoption of an orbital headquarters spared it the chaos of the first Atikon Civil War, and for a time it was the largest manufacturing group on the planet. It has since branched into the spacecraft business with a line of now legendary line of tug and service ships (notably the B.90 series), and the production of prefabricated orbital installations. Come hard times, however, the company scales back these side ventures and returns its focus to its flagship product.

Governance

The Bulgine company is run primarily by its senior engineers, with historically low shareholder involvement. Most executives start in its engineering or manufacturing offices, and its product-centered management has been widely credited with its exceptional longevity.

Bulgine Systems is a joint-stock company widely listed on exchanges in central Elyrion. 20% of its stock his held by the New Atikon League, 5% by Concord Industries, 25% by the Dalkot family, 20% by various private private portfolios on Atikon, and the remaining 30% by private portfolios across central and western Elyrion.

Agenda

Having weathered the recent economic downturn on Atikon, the company is now looking to expand. Though it has long resisted a takeover by Concord, its executives have expressed openness to partnering with the firm’s spaceflight and deep-space installation arms on a variety of ambitious engineering projects.
