Ubiquitous in the black and grey markets of the Nova Compact, the Margarine Security Group provides guards, mercenaries, and negotiators to anyone who has need of them, for a price. They are known to be competent operators throughout the criminal underworld - but this is not what sets them apart from other groups, or even rag-tag freelancers; rather, the key to M.S.G's success is their extensive network of favours among criminals and governments alike. An operator of Margarine Security Group is expected to behave strictly in accordance with maintaining these relations, and mercenary contracts accepted by M.S.G. will often include liabilities releasing them from service or penalizing the contractor in case such relations are endangered.

Modus Operandi

M.S.G. mercenaries are not quiet, they are not brutal. They are, however, extremely fast, well-supported, and unexpected, and more often than not their objectives are completed without loss of life. A bit of intimidation, the M.S.G insignia, and several hundred small, prearranged bribes are more than enough to finish things off; all that must be done is to meet the right person at the right time, and to stay exactly on schedule. Due to the complications incurred by killing possibly important individuals who happen to be in the way, M.S.G mercenaries are trained to cut through walls and run straight through checkpoints as necessary, typically in multiple simultaneous directions as a distracting measure. Operatives are expected to be captured on the regular, and are thus told little about their true objectives unless under direct oversight of non-M.S.G contractors.

M.S.G's specialty is crowded areas, where their contacts and distractions function at their best. Fake bomb threats, unscheduled inspections, and paid inebriation are common tactics, performed by many compartmentalised proxies. The ratio of proxies to actual M.S.G operatives is typically higher than 10.

Identification

Identifying an M.S.G operative can be difficult, due to the disguises and personas made available to them. They do, however, frequently possess bionic components, and most organic M.S.G operatives are fitted with subdermal chips as both identification and a last-resort means of escape (a single-use, sometimes-lethal fusion dust broadcaster). High-ranking androids of M.S.G. affiliation may be identified by gaps in their memory and shallow affect, bearing only partial copies of the original matrix. If one is lucky enough to spot an original frame, it will typically appear asleep or inebriated in some way. Strong magical disruptions can sever their connection, restoring function of the original while leaving the copies limp as mannequins.

M.S.G activity can be discerned somewhat from that of others by their preference for radio-frequency weapons and detuned flash lasers, which scar and incapacitate but kill less easily than other types. They will carry more lethal backups and sniper rifles, but these are only placed in the hands of trusted agents with passing knowledge of local politics.
